The set and 19k video projection were designed to evoke “unfolding” as a visual metaphor for discovery. Simultaneously, the set provides a bold, flexible and dimensional space for communication, connection and inspiration.
This is the opening for Google Next. Working with the very talented team at Ntropic, I was originally assigned to help composite this piece, but ended up doing much more. Initially, I performed several lighting and rendering tests to help the final developed look, as well as testing several paper textures. Once the city was more developed, I did a lot of set dressing, using various model packs. I created city street scenes, curbside cafes, parks, and I fleshed out rooftops with billboards, helicopters, water towers, etc. In addition to compositing and finalizing the look of the the whole piece, I completed the transition going from outside above the city, and pulling out of a map screen on a computer inside an office.
City lighting test and rendering techniques, with specific light temperature and time of day . This was partially useful to determine render times on the very large format render. Also we were able to see some animation tests and RnD for achieving desired look, motion, and communication.
Mood Boards and Inspirations
Transitional unfolding animations made in C4D, to drive content and unveil space of interest. Several of these were inspired and based on provided style frames, and mood boards. The Walk On team was tasked with developing a deck of animations that take place in very specific locations and timing on the video wall, to help frame the desired content, and introduce the large roster of guests.
