Role: Lead Animation
Production: John Mcneil Studio
Year: 2017
For the initial kick off of this project I was the lead motion graphics artist. We received boards and vector art from the print design team, and I developed a few animation and design principals, text treatments, and other tools. I also guided the other motion artists through to the final product.
After Effects was used because of its native and simple vector spline tools. We gave the assets an organic and energetic motion, while keeping it simple and minimalist, so that would it would be easy to understand. This was project was very fun and equally satisfying.

I worked remotely with Sawhorse Productions on this piece. I developed a lot of the initial look and the final logo reveal, but most of my work was on the red line and marker text treatments. This was an integral part of the whole production to seamlessly tie in and drive the content. I needed something easy, quick , flexible, and fully dimensional. Since the red line was the final piece to be added, I had to wait till the C4D renders were completed, and scenes and cameras exported and sent to me. But that allowed for me to spend a decent amount of time to RandD my setup leading up to these final shots. A majority of the shots were sent to me the day before this piece was to be showcased at their convention. At the time, AE didn't have a great native line tool, so I used particular. With a single light as an emitter to animate the red line, the light would drop a slightly roughened and static sprite along the lights path. I had set up this particle system with expressions to dynamically adjust the birth rate of particles depending on the emitter lights speed. This made it so that there was always a consistently spaced amount of particles along the path, which helped with optimization. The expression also took into account particle size, and would adjust the particle birth rate on the fly.

'Wikipedia - Truth in Numbers' was the 2nd feature length documentary put out by Underdog pictures, a production company I helped form in 2004 with close friends and filmmakers. Working closely with the director, I developed the overall design and look of the graphics to be showcased in the film. Many pieces in this clip were concepts or works in progress.
